Heat recovery systems food industry

A saving of 715,000 standard cubic meters per year of natural gas: this is only one given the effect of the intervention of heat recovery systems food industry made by INTERESC, a company specializing in the Heat & Power Group, at its plant in Casteggio (PV) AB Mauri of Italy SpA, a subsidiary of AB | Mauri - Associated British Foods plc (ABF plc).

It is one of the largest facilities worldwide dedicated to the production of yeast of any type, with greater focus on the yeast for bread (fresh, dried and off) and those for special use, used in the pharmaceutical and Enotecnica. The plant also produces a wide range of products derived from yeast, for use in animal feed and fertilizer.

The production of yeast and its derivatives requires the use of large amounts of thermal energy, mainly in the installations of production of dried yeast, in plants for the production of deactivated yeast through Spray Dryers and finally in the treatment of exhausted broths of fermentation, from which It comes the production of protein concentrates and depotassati Potassic Sulphate.

The thermal energy is distributed within the plant using as a heat transfer fluid technological steam, produced in the combined cycle in cogeneration based on two groups gas turbine, two generators recovery steam and a steam turbine in backpressure. The power plant, as well as the entire production plant, work on an ongoing basis with 24/7 cycle.

On both systems, gas turbine heat recovery food INTERESCO intervened with a heat recovery systems food industry downstream of the steam generators and flue gas outlet to the chimney, which extracts heat at low temperature recovering much of the sensible and latent heat that It was still present in the flue gas. The power of heat recovery systems food industry average is equal to 1100 kW (the maximum power recovery greater than 1500 kW), corresponding to an energy recovery of approximately 9,000 MWh per year. The recovered energy is used to produce hot water in a closed circuit, used to preheat different thermal loads at low temperature within the plant.

The intervention made by INTERESCO is partly paid by the contribution of energy efficiency certificates, acquired and managed directly by the same. This allows among other things to the customer the ability to have the service included for the disbursement period TEE without charge.
